Scholarship History:

Established by Eddwina "Eddy" Dalton in 1983 as part of the "First Lady's Mental Retardation Project."  At the time, John Dalton was governor of Virginia, and Eddy Dalton, his wife, was first lady.  Governor Dalton died in 1986, and Mrs. Dalton went on to run for the Virginia Senate and served for several years before retiring in 1992.

Scholarship History:

Established by Donald and Joan Simon in memory of their daughter, Julie Simon '83.  Julie graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Special Education - Emotionally Disturbed.  She died in March 1988.  The Simons have two living children, both of whom are also graduates of JMU: Beth Ann Simon-Schaeffer, who graduated from the college of business in 1984; and Dondi R. Simon, who graduated from the college of business in 1992.

 

 

 

D. Perry and Sharon C. Brown Scholarship

Scholarship History:

Established by Sharon Nielson Cooper Brown '81, and her husband, Perry, in December 2000.  Sharon graduated magna cum laude from James Madison University with a B.S. in Mental Retardation Education.  As a student she belonged to the Council for Exceptional Children.  Perry Brown is a graduate of Virginia Tech.  They have three daughters.
