Scholarship History:

Established in May 1988 by Charles H. Osterhoudt and family in memory of his wife, Beverley Ann Pearce Osterhoudt '58.  Beverley graduated from Madison College with a B.S. in Business Administration.  A native of Pulaski County, Virginia, her attendance at Madison was assisted by a scholarship. Beverley taught public high school in Albemarle County and Roanoke City.  She taught both 10th grade English and various business subjects.  She also served on the faculty of Hollins College for 14 years.  She served on the JMU Alumni Board of Directors and was always a strong supporter of James Madison University.  Her daughter, Katrina, graduated from JMU in 1989, as did a niece.  Beverly died of acute leukemia in 1987.

Scholarship History:

Established by Evelyn V. Shrum '38, and her husband, Samuel, in July 1986.  Evelyn's class was the first to graduate from Madison College, which changed its name from the State Teachers College in Harrisonburg in 1938.  Evelyn's degree was in elementary education, and she taught school for many years.  Sam Shrum is a graduate of Virginia Tech, was the president of Nielsen Construction and the Chairman of the Board for Sunnyside Retirement Home.  He was named the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year in 1975.
