Scholarship History:

Established by the Black Student Alliance in October 1979.  It was originally named the Black Student Scholarship.  The name was changed in 1998 in memory to Dr. Lacy S. "Dan" Daniel, who faithfully advised the Black Student Alliance during his tenure at JMU.   He was a therapist in the JMU Counseling and Student Development Center from 1973 to 1978 and was dean of students and student government adviser from 1978 until his retirement in 1990.  He continued to teach and counsel at JMU after he retired.  He died in 1998.
