Scholarship History: |
Established by Inez Graybeal Roop '35, and her husband, Ralph Goodwin Roop, in June, 1980 in memory of Inez's parents, Charles and Bertha Graybeal. The Graybeals operated a 600-acre farm in Christiansburg, Virginia. The Graybeals' daughters, Inez and Frances, both attended what is today JMU. Inez graduated from the State Teachers College at Harrisonburg with a double-major in English and History. She was a schoolteacher in Virginia for many years. Inez's involvement with James Madison University has been lifelong. She has served on the Alumni Board of Directors, the Board of Visitors, and was a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Service Award. The Graybeal Scholarship is just one of the many ways Inez and Ralph have shown their commitment to the mission of JMU and its students. |
