Scholarship History:

Established by Dr. Harry Lawrence "Larry" Batschelet II in December 1999 in memory of his wife, Beverley "Bev" Anne Thomas Batschelet '55.  Bev graduated from Madison College with a BS in Business and Marketing Education.  She was a member of Sigma Kappa.  She spent her entire career working as the assistant to the executive director of the American Society for Association Executives (ASAE).  Bev died in February 1995.  Her husband, Larry, was a graduate of Susquehanna University and got his Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University in psychology in 1953.  During his career he served in the U.S. Army as a psychologist, did international relief work in Viet Nam and Guam, and was a disaster coordinator for the American Red Cross in Viet Nam, Cambodia and Guam.  Dr. Batschelet died in July 2001 after a lengthy illness.  This scholarship was established as a result of his generous bequest to JMU.
