Scholarship History: |
Established by Judith B. Blankenburg in April 1988. Judith was from Herndon, Kansas, and received a bachelor's degree from Fort Hays State University in 1955, a master's in librarianship from Emporia State University in 1969, and she did postgraduate work at the University of Virginia. She had extensive experience as a teacher and librarian in public schools and with the Department of Defense Overseas Schools. In 1969 she was employed by Madison College as a cataloger. In 1971 she became assistant professor of library science in the Department of Secondary Education, Library Science and Educational Leadership. She was a member of ALA, the National Council of Teachers of English, the Virginia Educational Media Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and the Association for Educational Communication and Technology. She received the State Intellectual Freedom Award in 1990 and the National Intellectual Freedom Award in 1992. Judith died June 23, 1993 after an extended illness. Much of this endowment was contributed by Judith's friends and coworkers after her death. |
