Scholarship History: |
Established in April 1992 in honor of Dr. Dorothy "Dot" M. Rowe '50. Dorothy graduate from Madison College with a B.S. in Home Economics Education and Institution Management. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. from Ohio State University. She has worked off and on at the university since 1951, and in between has worked at various hospitals. She became the Head of the Home Economics department here in 1961. She has been very involved in the field of Dietetics during her professional career. She has been president of the Virginia Dietetic Association and Blue Ridge Dietetic Association, was vice president of the Virginia Home Economics Association, was disaster chairman of the Red Cross, and was on the board of the Virginia Association on Aging, among many others. She was named Faculty Emerita upon her retirement from JMU in 1990. |

Scholarship History: |
Established in 1973 by Drs. Ted and Marjorie Christiansen in honor of their mothers, Minnie Christiansen and Margaret Miner. Neither of these women had much schooling, but both believed that education was the key to a better quality of life. They each had a child who became a Ph.D. and professor emeritus at a university. Ted Christiansen died in 1997. Marjorie Christiansen is now retired. |

Scholarship History: |
Established by the colleagues and friends of Dr. Joanne M. Pearson in recognition of her dedication and service to the dietetics program. Dr. Pearson was the coordinator of the dietetics program for twelve years. She retired in 1998 and now lives in Blacksburg, Virginia. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts and her Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. |
