Scholarship History:

Established by Alpha Spitzer '37 in August 2001.  Alpha lived on Main Street, across from the college, with the Dingledines in a house next to where the present Anthony-Seeger building is.  Her two sisters also graduated from Madison College, and two of her aunts, Nora and Lucy Spitzer, attended the Normal School in the early years, about 1917. Alpha taught in Rockingham County before going to Virginia Tech for a master's in business education.  She moved to Fairfax County, where she became a vocational office training coordinator for Falls Church High School.  She served as president in 1963 of the Virginia Business Education Association.  About 1960 she became one of the first treasurers of the Apple Federal Credit Union in Fairfax County, which is very successful today. Alpha retired in 1974.  She and her sister, Margaret, joined the Shillelaghs Air Travel Club, and they have many trips to remember.  Alpha eventually moved to the Harrisonburg area, where she now lives, and attended the 65th reunion of the class of 1937 in May 2002.
