Scholarship History:

Established Donald E. '82 and Kathryn W.  '81 Rhymer in June 2000.  Don graduated with a B.S. in Communications, and Kate graduated cum laude with a B.B.A. in Management.  Don was an RA while a student here and has served on the Arts and Letters Advisory Council.  He is a free-lance screenwriter.

 

 

 

Carl L. Harter Scholarship

Scholarship History:

Established by Kay A. Harter in April 1992 in memory of her husband, Dr. Carl L. Harter.  Dr. Harter received a bachelor's degree in sociology and a master's degree in education from Emporia State University in Kansas.  He received a doctorate in sociology from Tulane University in 1966.  Dr. Harter came to the university in 1979 as the head of the department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work.  He was the associate dean of the College of Letters and Sciences from 1985 until his death, except for 1986-87 and a period in 1989 when he served as acting dean.  He died March 30, 1992 of complications stemming from leukemia.  He was 55 years old.
