CFI Read and Dialogue: Emergent Strategy by adrienne maree brown

Activist adrienne maree brown’s keynote at the JMU Queer Teach-In explores her work. To keep the conversation going, faculty—whether able to attend the Teach-In or not—are invited to join the CFI Reading Group to explore adrienne maree brown’s book, Emergent Strategy: Shaping Change, Shaping Worlds. According to brown’s website, the book is “a guidebook for getting in right relationship with change, using our own nature and that of creatures beyond human as our teachers.”

In this group, we will explore ways to apply the lessons of Emergent Strategy to our work in higher education, and build community around “getting in right relationship with change,” in ourselves, our classrooms, our units, our communities, and beyond.

The book is available as an e-book from the JMU Libraries. We will read the book in stages across this four-week reading group.

Tuesdays from 12:30-1:30pm, starting 10/24 through 11/14

Faculty participants will make progress towards the following program outcomes:

  • Identifying lessons for higher education from the book Emergent Strategy
  • Applying Emergent Strategy to their work as faculty
  • Building community on campus around Emergent Strategy and right relationship with change
