“The Fling” Freshman Design Competition

September 22, 2012
12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m.
(Food will be provided for participants)
Put your engineering design skills to work.
Come and design, build, and deploy a device that will launch a Duke Dog stuffed animal!
Logistics

Object
An undisclosed government agency has asked your companies to develop a prototype device to demonstrate a proof-of-concept for a system that could be used to rescue small dogs in an emergency from an off-shore SPCA location.
Game Day
Teams will join together for a quick meeting as a group where they will receive detailed instructions. You should get to know your teammates prior to the Sept 22nd event. It would be beneficial for teams to come up with some predefined roles: a team lead and individuals assigned to watch time, materials, budget, sustainability, and scoring.
Registration
Competition: You will be assigned teams in Engineering group advising session on August 24. You will have approximately three weeks to talk to your teammates and get together some ideas for the big day, but you won’t know exactly what materials you will have to work with until the day of the competition (examples: PVC pipe, bungee/surgical cord, duct tape, etc.)
