C&I PROCESS Overview

The university C&I process is outlined in the JMU Faculty Handbook, and each college maintains specific procedures for their college. For more information on your college's C&I process, contact your College C&I Chair.

All curricular proposals originate from faculty members at the academic unit level and follow the same general review process. Depending on the type of proposal, additional levels of review may be needed. For example, a new course proposal is reviewed by the offering academic unit, the college in which that unit is housed, and by the university community. A new program proposal, such as a new major, would begin with a pre-proposal review. The proposal would complete the same steps in addition to review by the Committee on Academic Programs, the JMU Board of Visitors, the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia (SCHEV) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
