Do you help all majors?

Yes, Speech Services works with all students (undergraduate and graduate students) and faculty at JMU.

 How long does a session take?

Although there is no requirement for appointment times, a good rule of thumb is two reserve at least twice the amount of time that the presentation will take.  For example, if you are in a group presenting for twenty-five minutes, making an appointment for just a half hour will not allow time for everyone to get to Speech Services, to power up the equipment you may be using and to get feedback from the Speech Services staff.

 Are appointments required?

No. However, it's a very good idea to reserve a space ahead of time. It helps us ensure that there is staff available to help you or room for your group to practice.

 Can I record myself while I practice?

Yes, the Speech Services staff can record you on a portable digital camera or VHS tape.  We can email the digital recording to you if you have sufficient space in your account (Webmail will NOT suffice). Sometimes it takes a while, so it if you bring a thumb drive we can save your recording to it.

 I want to practice with a powerpoint slideshow, what format should I bring it on to use in the practice rooms?

To use your powerpoint presentation in our practice rooms you can access it with 

a USB drive
a CD
E-mail
