6-12 English

The 6-12 English Academy will explore innovative language, literacy, and literature pedagogies for middle and secondary English classrooms.  By engaging in collaborative learning activities, emphasizing Hands-On/Minds On instructional strategies, and examining diverse literacy opportunities, participants will develop a deeper understanding of best practices in English classrooms. 

Gena Southall

Academy Chair

 Gena Southall, Assistant Professor of English Education at Longwood University, had her first experience with the Content Teaching Academy in 2009.  She has taught middle and high school and is currently coordinating the undergraduate and graduate Secondary English Licensure program at Longwood University.  Her research interests include teacher preparation, cooperative learning, and grammar instruction.
