CSD 415: Introduction to Neuromotor Speech Disorders

Course Description: This course is devoted to neuroanatomy as it relates to communication and communication disorders.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course, students will have a working knowledge of:

  1. the anatomy and physiology of the peripheral nervous system, particularly the cranial

nerves and their relationship to communication and swallowing;

b. the anatomy and physiology of the central nervous system, particularly the brainstem, midbrain, and the forebrain, and their relationships to communication and communication disorders;

c. the anatomy and physiology of central processing and its relationship to receptive and expressive communication disorders.

Course Requirements: 1. preparation prior to class meetings in completing readings

2. regular attendance and participation in class activities and discussions

3. successful completion of 3 tests covering readings and class lectures.

Grading: A: 93-100 B+: 90-92 B: 87-89 B-: 85-86 C+: 82-84

C: 79-81 C-: 77-78 D+: 73-76 D: 69-72 F: 68 or lower

Note: Grades from this half of the course are averaged with grades from the first half.
