Senior teacher candidates in the EXED K-12 Special Education program participate in a unique reading and behavior focused practicum. EXED teacher candidates assess students at a local elementary school who are at risk for academic failure in reading or who have disabilities, select evidence-based interventions, implement the interventions, and collect ongoing progress monitoring data throughout the 16 weeks. This practicum is a unique "clinical" approach to helping pre-service teachers experience instruction in an authentic setting. This practicum also provides supplemental interventions for approximately 60 K-5 students per year.
