The Entrepreneurship minor is designed to introduce students from any discipline to the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary for successful new venture creation. The minor is open to students in any major except Management. The minor is 18 credits total: four required and two elective courses. 

Application Guidelines

Admission is competitive and limited to a maximum of 30 students per cohort. A completed application form which includes an unofficial transcript and essay questions on the applicant’s entrepreneurial experience and goals are required to apply.

Applications open on March 1st and will be accepted until March 22nd. Accepted applicants will be notified via email by April 1st.

Declaration Process

Students in good academic standing who have been accepted into the minor should submit a declaration of minor request via MyMadison.

Graduation Requirement

The Entrepreneurship Minor requires a minimum 2.0 GPA for graduation on all courses completed at JMU. Transfer credit is not calculated in the GPA.

  • COB 300A  – Integrated Business Functions - MGT, CoB majors, 1st semester junior year
  • MGT 320  – Management of Innovation and Technology, 2nd semester junior
  • MGT 471  – Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, 1st semester senior year
  • MGT 472  – New Venture Creation, 2nd semester senior year

No transfer credit will be accepted.

NOTE: Elective courses may not be offered every semester and may have prerequisites.

Students may request permission to count two 3-credit electives from their major as their ENTP electives. These courses must be related to innovation and/or entrepreneurship, and must be approved by the ENTP Minor Coordinator.
