Psychology's Steve Evans, Ph.D. Publishes Book

Kluwer/Plenum publishing has announced the publication of the "Handbook of School Mental Health: Advancing Practice and Research." Steven Evans, Ph.D. an associate professor of psychology at JMU along with two colleagues served as editors for this book. Leaders in the school based mental health field from across the country contributed to the book that includes chapters covering a variety of aspects of school mental health including funding, crisis response, prevention, training, research, and many others. The work is an example of the continued collaboration between the Alvin V. Baird Attention & Learning Disabilities Center at JMU and the Center for School Mental Health Assistance at the University of Maryland. Dr. Evans has developed numerous school based mental health programs in urban and rural communities (including Harrisonburg & Rockingham county) and provides training for graduate and undergraduate students on this modality of clinical service. In addition, students are involved in grant funded clinical research on the school-based model of care and some JMU students co-authored chapters in the book.
