About Fulbright

The prestigious Fulbright Program promotes mutual understanding between U.S. citizens and people in various countries. Faculty and administrators share their knowledge and experience while internationalizing their teaching, conducting research, and carrying out professional goals.

Different types of Fulbright Awards require different application components. Please review your specific Fulbright Award to determine the best way to approach the application process. In general, it is beneficial to:

  • Plan two-to-three years in advance of intended departure
  • Talk with your Academic Unit Head, Dean, the CGE, and past JMU Fulbrighters to learn more about which kind of Fulbright might be best for you, and what locations provide the best partnership opportunities
  • Attend Fulbright information sessions both at JMU and through the Fulbright organization
  • Confirm deadlines and steps invovled in the application process
  • Prepare your application by updating your CV, securing letters of recommendation, and other needed materials
