Judith Flohr
Kinesiology professor
Judith Flohr has always believed that a vital part of a woman's sense of self stems from her physical well being. "If you have confidence in your physical self," she explains, "then that confidence will make an impact on your self esteem and all other aspects of your being, including your emotional health and cognitive ability." Judith developed and directs the Morrison-Bruce Center for the Promotion of Physical Activity for Girls and Women at JMU to conduct ongoing research into that idea and to provide opportunities for enhanced services. Through the center's name, the kinesiology professor also honors the achievements of women-in-sport pioneers and emeritus JMU faculty members Lee Morrison and Pat Bruce. Judith's accomplishments have garnered the support of these pioneers and JMU alumni who together have built a $400,000 endowment for the center. Judith contributes her own modest gift to the center through payroll deduction.
"You choose to be in higher education, not to make money, but because you have the desire or belief that you can make a difference. If you truly believe in it, giving allows you to affirm your commitment. It doesn't have to be a huge amount."
