BBA Prerequisite Courses

Students majoring in any Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program offered by the JMU College of Business (COB) must complete the following basic courses which are intended to provide a fundamental understanding of the essential dimensions of business. To contact faculty teaching in the College of Business or to view their webpages, refer to the COB directory.

Lower Level Requirements:

Students should complete all lower level (100 and 200 level series) core courses identified in Exhibit 1 below prior to enrolling in courses numbered 300 or higher. College of Business courses offered at the 300 level are restricted to students who have achieved junior standing or higher at the time of enrollment, having completed the 100 and 200 level coursework.

Note 1  Before taking COB 291, students must have completed calculus (either MATH 205 or MATH 235) and COB 191 or MATH 220. The calculus course should be taken to fulfill a General Education requirement (Cluster Three).

Note 2  Students must take two economics courses. Gecon 200 should be taken as a General Education requirement (Cluster Four). Econ 201 must be taken as part of the Business Core.

Note 3  All students majoring in a business discipline must demonstrate skills in the use of electronic mail systems, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation graphics software packages. It's expected that the computer competency requirement will be met during the freshman year. It must be met before registering for any 300-level courses in the College of Business.
