BBA Core

James Madison University offers a fully-accredited program leading to a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with a major in a specific field. The program is designed to prepare students for positions of leadership and responsibility in business and industry, governmental and not-for-profit organizations, and graduate study.

To earn a BBA degree, a student must have a minimum of 120 earned credit-hours accepted by JMU.   Refer to the appropriate undergraduate catalog for additional information regarding graduation requirements. Credit hours are earned as follows: 

General Education Requirements: 40-43 credit-hours.  The General Education program will provide the student with a broad knowledge of human culture, social issues, natural science and mathematics, arts and the humanities.   This portion of the program will develop in the student an appreciation of the complexities of the modern world in which we live. Refer to the appropriate undergraduate catalog for additional information regarding general education requirements.

BBA Core Requirements: 40-45 credit hours  The Business Core consists of 40-45 credit hours. Students take courses in economics, finance, management, organizational behavior, marketing, operations research, and statistics. Major Program Requirements  Major program courses emphasize problem solving, communication, group/team behavior, and the technical skills required for success in the field of choice. The schools have adopted a program of "writing across the curriculum", incorporated critical thinking cases, utilized extensive group project work, and have taken other steps to ensure that the graduates are prepared to become not just qualified, but highly qualified professional managers. In addition, each major comprises a series of electives intended to prepare the graduate to become a contributing professional to society.
