Josh exemplifies the three traits that are looked for in Dingledine Scholarship winners -- leadership, scholarship and citizenship. This integrated science and technology major gives a lot of credit to his family for his achievements: "My parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents -- all of them -- made it easy to discuss any problems and never hesitated to give me reassurance through tough times." Josh's biggest accomplishment was graduating with an International Baccalaureate Diploma in high school, an intense academic endeavor, which also required additional hours of community service, and creative and sports activities. Josh still found time to tutor students through his participation in the Spanish Honor Society and National Honor Society. "Tutoring made me appreciate education as a means of development, rather than an obligation, and, in the end, I feel made me a better person." Josh was attracted to Madison because of the ISAT program, but he also really loves the size: "At JMU you feel like you're a part of something big, but at the same time you feel appreciated."
"To be the change, you have to understand that in some way or another, your actions do influence those around you."
