(Modern Diplomacy) Landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) continue to threaten lives and hinder development in conflict-torn regions like the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Tigray. Colonel Gebremichael Hagos highlights the pervasive risks of UXO in Tigray, exacerbated by limited resources. Similarly, the DRC struggles with the legacy of land mines, impeding socio-economic progress.

Both regions face challenges of funding, logistics, and expertise in demining efforts. Despite differences in conflict intensity, the obstacles are remarkably similar. International support is crucial in clearing these hazards and enabling affected communities to rebuild.
