Mine-Detecting Dogs Aid Demining Efforts in Mykolaiv

(NikVesti) In Mykolaiv Oblast, mine detection dogs found 30 rounds of ammunition in Pervomaysk. Despite challenges like weather and previous shelling affecting accuracy, they remain efficient. Unlike metal detectors, dogs can detect shells with plastic casings. The demining situation is urgent, with 30% of the region mined and efforts ongoing to clear agricultural land. Only 40% of Maksymivka village has been cleared, with some areas still hazardous.

Local sappers and a farmer are involved in clearance efforts. The Bashtanka district remains heavily mined, with part previously under occupation. Innovative technologies like a three-month demining plant are being developed, and deminer units are deployed across multiple regions.
