Carol Anderson (’86) joined the Executive Advisory Council in 2021.  Carol earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from JMU’s College of Business.  During her time at JMU, she played club field hockey and worked in the Dean’s Office of the School of Fine Arts and Communication.

After graduation, Carol was recruited into Sovran Bank’s (now Bank of America) management trainee program where she rose through the ranks in Retail Banking management.  In 1994 Carol earned her Masters in Business Administration from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business where she founded the school’s Human Resources Club. After earning her MBA, Carol pivoted her career into Human Resources, working for PepsiCo in their restaurant division for five years and then joining Capital One in 1998.  Over her 22 year career at Capital One, Carol held a variety of Human Resources leadership positions including Human Resources Consultant, Co-Head of Talent Acquisition, Head of Compensation and Benefits, and Head of Human Resources for the Commercial Bank. Carol is passionate about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and was the Accountable Executive for Capital One Human Resources' Belonging efforts.

Carol comes from a long line of Dukes including her grandmother who graduated from The State Normal and Industrial School for Women, and her brother, sister-in-law, and step-brother. Carol is an advocate for life-long learning and devotes her time to organizations and philanthropic efforts promoting scholarships for women and disadvantaged youth.
