When are applications due?

All applications materials need to be submitted by February 1, 2020.


When will I be informed about the status of my application?

All applicants will be notified about the status of their application no later than April 15th. 


Can I apply for a Graduate Assistantship (GA) if I am applying for the Noyce Scholarship?

You are welcome to apply for any position or scholarship. Students who are recommended for GA must choose between the GA position and the Noyce Scholarship.


What do I need to include in my application?

  • Completed online application: The online application includes (a) applicant information and (b) a letter of intent addressing why you want to become a secondary science or mathematics teacher. Click here to access the online application.
  • Two letters of recommendation: One letter should be from a JMU faculty member in the content area you intend to teach. The second letter should be from someone who can speak to your potential to become a teacher. This second recommendation can, but does not have to, be a JMU faculty member. Applicants are responsible for requesting letters of recommendations from their references. Letters of recommendation should be emailed from the reference writer to teachstem@jmu.edu.
  • Unofficial transcripts from undergraduate and any graduate coursework completed. Send to teachstem@jmu.edu.
