Description

Duties:

  • Participate in week-long staff training before campers arrive. Training covers a variety of topics including but not limited to, lesson plans, teaching techniques, missing home, incident reporting, emergency procedures, risk management, and attachment styles. Training is designed to prepare counselors for what they might experience during the summer.
  • Establish a rapport with all campers in their activities and cabin, identify camper needs, likes and dislikes, and create a safe environment where campers can grow in their relationships.
  • Serve as both a member of a village and activity department (Aquatics, Equestrian, Outdoors, Performing Arts, Science and Technology, Sports, and Visual Arts). Staff will live in a village within a program. The Journey Program houses campers ages 6-11 and is broken up into Rainbow Village (girls) and Sunrise Village (boys). The Explorer Program houses campers ages 12-16 and is broken up into Starlight Village (girls) and Sunset Village (boys). Staff live in a cabin with 8-12 campers and one co-counselor. Counselors may move between programs throughout the summer.
  • Instruct 4 activity periods each day, 3 of which are based on skill progression. These activities occur on a daily basis, Monday-Friday.
  • Create, implement, and develop lesson plans for respective activity departments.
  • Instruct campers on the policies of camp and the details of emergency procedures, maintain a high level of safety throughout activities and village time.
  • Serve as a role model for campers, encouraging respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities. Provide examples of positive behavior for campers through cleanliness, punctuality, and respect to themselves, others, and the environment.
  • Submit required paperwork on time, such as Parent Postcards, Bunk Notes, Weekly Check-ins, and New Year/Birthday Cards.
  • Supervise assigned group of campers between the ages of 6-12.

Requirments:

Must be over the age of 18 and pass a local, state, and federal background check.
