Description
Duties:
A local educational agency is hiring a therapeutic mentor to support families in their homes and in the community. The position of Youth Mentor provides therapeutic mentoring services to youth ages 5-18. This position entails specific training on mentoring youth at risk.
Youth Mentor will be responsible for working with the parents and clients to build rapport, develop an Individualized Service Plan, and support the client in achieving their goals. Youth Mentors are also utilized to support other families when needed by the Youth & Family Specialists. This includes, but is not limited to, transportation to appointments or visitation, check-ins, and outside casework.
The right candidate will be motivated, autonomous, passionate, culturally competent, and trauma-informed. The candidate will be a self-starter and need minimal micromanagement to perform job duties. This position entails driving to Rockingham and Augusta County. Applicants must have a vehicle, driver's license, and car insurance. Free off-campus parking can be arranged for the right candidate.
The position is part-time (20-40 hours a month) with a possibility of full-time hours in the future. Schedule flexibility is required with an emphasis on late afternoon and evening availability. Compensation is based on face-to-face hours with clients and includes mileage reimbursement.
Requirments:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children/adolescents and adults.
- An understanding of the NASW Code of Ethics with a strong moral compass and professional boundaries.
- Due to travel requirements, the applicant must have a valid driving license, insurance, and a good driving record.
- Applicant must be willing to drive in Harrisonburg City, Rockingham, and Augusta County.
- Must be committed to working with parents and children in their homes.
- Time management skills and self-discipline to support families in the community without micromanagement.
- Availability in the afternoon and evenings for at least 3 days a week.
