Description
Duties:
EDIBLE EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR POSITION DESCRIPTION: The On the Road Collaborative Edible Education Instructor(s) will lead or support the Emerging Chefs program, teaching weekly cooking and food lessons to small groups of about 16 middle and/or high school youth, directly reporting to the Edible Education Program Coordinator. The Emerging Chefs program operates weekday afternoons (Monday-Thursday) throughout most of the school year (October-May).
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Lead a variety of cooking and food service learning experiences in a group setting, utilizing effective teaching and youth engagement strategies.
- Serve as a mentor for youth, building strong relationships and motivating them to succeed.
- Create a safe, positive learning environment that promotes our core values of focused effort, service, perseverance and courage.
- Help create lesson plans and recipes with a co-facilitator.
- Work closely with a range of stakeholders, especially families, teachers and volunteers, to deliver quality programming.
- Help to plan the culminating Learning Showcase events (e.g. Iron Chef Challenge).
- Consistently attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Assist the Emerging Chefs Coordinator as needed on a range of logistical tasks to support program implementation.
- Attend occasional evening and Saturday field trips and special program events.
- Share about On the Road Collaborative in the community and identify ways for others to get involved and support the programs.
Requirements:
Strong candidates for this position will demonstrate the following characteristics:
- Knowledge of, and commitment to, the On the Road Collaborative’s mission and goals.
- Ability to engage, lead and instruct youth individually and in groups.
- Commitment to youth development and achievement.
- Experience working with older youth (middle-high school aged) preferred.
- Must love preparing healthy food.
- Kitchen prep experience is preferred.
- Health and nutrition must be a priority.
- Passion for working in a diverse, driven team setting.
- Initiative, resourcefulness and problem solving skills.
- Organization skills.
- Proficient at using Google Applications, especially Google Drive, Word and Sheets.
How to apply:
Salary
$15/hour
Specific hours
The Edible Education Instructor must be available at least one afternoon per week (Monday-Thursday) and some other times as required for meetings, field trips and other special events. The Emerging Chefs program operates weekday afternoons (Monday-Thursday) throughout most of the school year (October-May).
Duration of position
Full year candidates preferred, fall only candidates acceptable.
