Duties:

Summary/Objective: The behavior therapist will be responsible for providing intensive behavioral intervention services to clients with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental delays, such as in language, cognitive, adaptive behavior, social-emotional, self-care, fine motor, gross motor and communication development. The behavior therapist is ultimately responsible for direct delivery of behavioral services according to a treatment plan to children and their families, as well as accurate record keeping of case notes. A supervising BCBA will be assigned for each client to discuss and plan for program creation, data collection and monitoring, and other support as needed.

  • The RBT maintains a weekly billable caseload of service hours as directed. Essential Functions:
  • Provide direct therapy in individual and group sessions.
  • Complete daily/weekly program writing and maintain client data collection.
  • Work with supervising BCBA and implement individualized goals and checklists.
  • Collect and graph data as instructed.
  • Maintain respect and confidentiality for all clients.
  • Maintain and protect the well-being of all clients.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to meet Virginia’s driving requirements.
  • Dependable means of transportation.

Requirements:

Required Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma.
  • RBT Certification or willing to obtain certification. If pursuing hours for BACB certification, supervision will be provided as part of the job.
  • Ability and willingness to travel between client locations for appointments as assigned in a punctual manner.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate in verbal and written interactions with both adults and clients.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Moderate to high stress levels.
  • Work fluctuates between a clinical office and home environment.
  • Regular contact with parents, community members and outside agency personnel.

Hazards: Incumbent may be exposed to contact with individuals displaying physically aggressive, self-abusive, or socially undesirable behavior.

Specific hours
Specific staff schedules are based on client session times, which are 9:00 - 12:00 pm, 12:00 - 3:00 pm, and/or 3:00 - 6:00 pm.

Duration of position
Year-round; flexible with student/college breaks.
