Duties:

SPECIFIC DUTIES ASSIGNED:

All duties are performed in such a way as to comply with local, state, and federal guidelines for licensure and safety standards.

  • Provide personal care to participants, including ambulation, transferring, toileting, dressing, grooming, bathing.
  • Assist and/or feed clients as needed. Serve meals and snacks. Be aware of special diets and food restrictions.
  • Maintain a safe and secure facility, helping to provide a neat, clean and pleasant environment. Specifically: correct any hazards, participate in fire drills, follow safe food-handling methods, clean and supply bathrooms, dispose of trash safely, use Universal Precautions.
  • Be responsible for participants’ coats, handbags, and personal items.
  • Record arrival and departure time of each participant daily.
  • Report to the Registered Nurse any information received from caregivers, regarding a participant’s condition, medication, needs, or schedule.
  • Be alert for, and report to the Registered Nurse, any changes in a participant’s physical, mental, or functional status.
  • Obtain, record, and report participants’ vital signs as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Complete other records and reports as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Interact with the participants during daily activities to encourage socialization and participation.
  • Assist with setting out, cleaning up, and storing all activity supplies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participant, staff, and organizational information.
  • Update and improve skills and knowledge by participating in staff meetings, in-service training, and staff development opportunities.
  • Keep informed of agency policies and procedures and implement with staff and participants.
  • Demonstrate leadership and serve as a role model for other staff.
  • Perform other appropriate tasks as assigned by the Registered Nurse or Executive Director.

Requirements:

GENERAL:

  • All staff members must be of good character and reputation.
  • Competent, qualified and capable of carrying out assigned responsibilities.
  • Willing and able to accept training and supervision.
  • Be considerate, understanding and respectful of the rights, dignity, and sensitivities of persons who are aged, infirm, and disabled.
  • Clean and well groomed.
  • Be able to speak, read, understand, and write in English as necessary to carry out their job responsibilities.
  • Be able to understand and apply the standards in this manual as they relate to their respective responsibilities.
  • Able to meet the requirements specified in the Regulation for Background Checks for Adult Day Care Centers.
  • Able to meet requirements for TB screening.

EDUCATION:

  • Must have a high school diploma and preferably previous experience with direct care of elderly and disabled persons.
  • Must have a Certified Nurse Aide certificate as issued by the Virginia Board of Nursing.

Additional Information:

We are not open in the evenings or weekends. Our hours are Monday - Friday 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. We are a day program, so the level of care needed is limited. No bathing required.

Duration of position
Fall semester, but could continue into the Spring.
