Duties:

The Hebrew School teacher position is a part-time role, meeting Sunday mornings (9:30 – 12:30) during the 2022-2023 academic year from August until May, roughly thirty sessions. Teaching experience is not required, and hands-on training will be provided - this is a great opportunity for education majors! Teachers will lead small classes (no more than 6 students, usually supported by an assistant teacher) in learning Hebrew and Jewish studies. The ideal candidate should have at least some familiarity and experience with Jewish culture, history, music, and worship; enjoy working with students; comfortable in a temple environment; and be able to follow a curriculum (lesson plan). A background check may be required. This position does pay a small honorarium (roughly $10 per hour; negotiable), it is primarily considered a volunteer role.

Requirements: 

  • Arrive on time (15 minutes prior to school) and stay until the last child is picked up.
  • Model appropriate behavior at all times.
  • Keep attendance; manage a classroom of students, including bringing them to the social hall for snack time with support from the Religious School Director and Rabbi.
  • Plan and deliver lessons in Hebrew (depending on age, Alef-Bet, reading Hebrew, or learning blessings and prayers) and Judaica (depending on age, Jewish Values / Israel / Bible Stories / Jewish History).
  • Send a weekly email about lessons and any homework expectations to enrolled families.
