Dr. Kirk St. Amant gives presentation on “Culture, Communication, and Care: Re-considering Health and Medical Communication for Global Contexts.”

On Monday, 11/2, WRTC was pleased to host Dr. Kirk St. Amant (East Carolina Univeristy) who presented on the global aspects of health communication.  Health and medical communication take place in international settings as different agencies and individuals attempt to coordinate the exchange of information across geopolitical, cultural, and linguistic borders.  What Dr. Amant illuminated is that these activities can be quite complex, and that applying a "universal" model of health care can not only be confusing but detrimental to the delivery of such care.  His presentation provided an overview of different factors individuals need to consider when sharing health and medical information with audiences from other cultures.  In so doing, Kirk was able to share different models and methods used when sharing health and medical content across (and among) nations.
