Special issue to spotlight Jayne Cortez and Amiri Baraka

News

Jayne Cortez and Amiri BarakaThe Fight & the Fiddle currently features articles, rare footage, archival photographs, and videos related to two Black Arts Movement greats: Jayne Cortez (1934–2012), pictured left courtesy JMU's University Marketing, and Amiri Baraka (1934–2014), pictured right courtesy Lynda Koolish.

These two revolutionary poets made substantial contributions to American letters, were powerful performers as well as writers, and created complex bodies of work related to the black experience.

Both of these poets also visited James Madison University as guests of the Furious Flower Poetry Center. In 2006 Jayne Cortez and the Firespitters performed at JMU, and Baraka read at both the 1994 and the 2004 Furious Flower Poetry Conferences.

We invite you to check back or join our mailing list (http://eepurl.com/Tyh4j) and get to know these poets as you have never seen them before.
