Architectural Design at James Madison University
The Interior Architecture program at James Madison University is very pleased to announce that we have a new name, Architectural Design. This exciting new name aligns with our teaching pedagogy and is the first Architectural Design Program in the history of James Madison University approved though our curriculum review process.
The name Architectural Design reflects the wide range of career options that are available to our students. The Architectural Design program is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, and prepares students for professional work or graduate study in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering or Interior Architecture. Students enrolled in this program gain the technical, creative, and expressive skills to become highly inventive design thinkers.
The Architectural Design program offers intensive education in the design process. The curriculum instills purpose, craft, technological competence, and versatile thinking. The Architectural Design curriculum is centered on a 6-studio sequence. The teaching of design process and a design ethos is at the heart of the program.
Additional required coursework in architectural history, materials & methods, computer modeling, professional practices, and study abroad supplement the studio sequence and support design projects of increasing sophistication and complexity.
