What is it? This two-day event is a fun, engaging, and educational competition where students work in teams to learn programming concepts through storytelling and game design and present their project to families and other guests at a dinner and showcase event on Saturday evening.
Who is hosting such an awesome event? Game Jam 2019 is co-hosted by the James Madison University Center for STEM Education and Outreach and Harrisonburg City Schools.
Who can compete? Students from all schools in grades 7-12
Where is it? In the ISAT/CS building on the campus of JMU
When is it? Friday October 11th from 9-4 PM (and what better reason to miss a day of school!) and Saturday October 12th from 10-7 PM. This a 2-day event. Participants are expected to attend both days. See schedule overview below. 
How do I sign up? Register here by September 30th! 
Is there a fee? There is a minimal fee of $10.00 to help cover the costs of materials, meals, and T-shirts. Payment information can be found on the registration form. Contact the STEM Center if you would like to apply for a scholarship allowing you to attend for no cost.
Do I have to have any programming experience? This event is for students with programming experience ranging from no experience at all to advanced. When you register, you will have the opportunity to sign up for one of four groups depending on your comfort level with programming concepts. All registrants will have access to online materials that will help prepare you for the competition. The sooner you register, the sooner you will have access to these materials!
Do I have to bring my own laptop? You do not need to bring your own laptop; however, we encourage anyone in groups 2-4 to bring one if they are able to. You will have guest WIFI access for your device.

Schedule Overview

Friday October 11th 

8-9 AM: Check-in, breakfast, and pick up your t-shirt.

9-4 PM: Game Jam sessions with breaks for snacks and lunch

*We understand that transportation schedules may require you to leave a little early on Friday. If so, you will be expected to notify your team members to talk about any work that needs to be done before Saturday morning. 

*We also understand this is a school day. We hope this educational and enriching competition will justify a missed school day. We can provide documentation for your attendance office verifying you are competing in the event. 

Saturday October 12th

10-5 PM: Gam Jam sessions with breaks for snacks and lunch

5-7 PM: Dinner, celebration, showcase, and prizes for competitors, family members, and other guests.
