B.A., M.A.

Sculptor

Kenneth Beer taught at JMU from 1960-1996. He was commissioned in 1974 by the Art and Architectural Review Council to create a bust of James Madison University, which they rejected. This governmental body reviewed, approved, and recommended to the governor all art before it was permanently affixed to state property. This veto of Beer's work caused much discussion regarding a state body determining artistic merit. Kenneth Beer passed away in 2018.
