Tamara Hatch is a graduate of the College of William and Mary. She subsequently earned her Master in Business Administration from James Madison University in 2014.

Tamara has been at James Madison University since 2000 and has served in the Office of Sponsored Programs in progressively more responsible roles, first as Grants Specialist, Assistant Director, Associate Director, Interim Director, and now Director for the office.

Tamara manages a staff of three who are dedicated to providing progressive services that give JMU faculty and staff a competitive edge in obtaining external funding. Collectively the OSP team provides assistance to faculty and staff members to develop and achieve their goals in research, educational programming, and service delivery through successful competition for external funding.  The OSP team provides expert assistance in proposal budget development and proposal submission.  OSP works collaboratively with Sponsored Programs Accounting to ensure responsible stewardship of resources and smooth close-out of awards.  OSP also works closely with the Office of Research Integrity to cross-check and verify compliance issues related to external funding are managed.  This includes verification of IRB, IACUC and Biosafety protocols as well as Financial Conflict of Interest disclosures and training.

As the authorized institutional representative for grant applications, contracts, and other funding instruments, Tamara is responsible for reviewing all proposals and negotiating and executing all contracts and agreements for JMU which involve sponsored projects.

Tamara serves on the Institutional Research Board, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Biosafety Committee, and Faculty Research Council. Within the community she is a Board member of the Harrisonburg Police Foundation and also a member of the Scholarship Selection Committee for the Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative.
