If participants are able to pass the Pre-Requisite Test, they will be able to register for the Lifeguarding certification class on a first come, first serve basis. You must be on time to participate in the Pre-Requisite Test.

The Pre-Requisite Test:

  • Continuously swim for 300 yards; participants must also be proficient in front crawl (using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick) and breaststroke (using a pull, breath, kick and glide sequence).
  • Be able to tread water for two minutes without support and without stopping, using only your legs.
  • Retrieve a 10 lb. brick from the bottom of the pool and swim 20 yards with the brick, without the use of goggles.
  • The 300 yard swim is not timed, but it must be continuous; the brick retrieval and swim must be done within 1 minute 40 seconds.
