Sonia Doulamis (she/her/hers) joined UREC in September 2021 as the Assistant Director for Substance Misuse Prevention. She oversees substance misuse programming, outreach and education based on the needs of the current student body.

Sonia is a double Hokie, having received her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and her Master of Public Health degrees from Virginia Tech. After graduate school, she taught computers and health & wellness for grades Pre-K – 8 at the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts. She then moved out to Grand Forks, ND where she was the Health Promotion Coordinator at the University of North Dakota. Sonia’s personal philosophy is that the role of any Student Affairs Department is to serve and empower students. This core value is showcased in every program she has created and was recognized when she was presented with the Outstanding Service to Students Award. While at UND, Sonia began her PhD in Higher Education, and is at the final stage of writing her dissertation. She is an active member of NASPA & ACHA, having presented at NASPA Strategies, NASPA IV-West, and the ACHA annual conference.

Sonia grew up in Lowell, MA and is a die-hard Boston sports fan, and football is her favorite sport. On the weekend you can find her cheering on her two favorite sports teams, the New England Patriots and Virginia Tech Hokies. An avid fan of the outdoors, Sonia and her rescue dog Hokie, can be seen running or walking around town.
