The Department of Physics & Astronomy recognizes annually its outstanding academic students, researchers, and student contributions to departmental teaching and service. Each year the overall strongest senior and junior academically are recognized through the Outstanding Senior and Junior awards. The department chooses the student with the strongest research and scholarship through its Outstanding research award. Students contribute to the curriculum at JMU as lab assistants in some of our courses. The student whose contributions are the most exemplary is awarded the Outstanding Teacher award. Finally, the students who contribute substantially to departmental or planetarium activities are awarded the departmental and planetarium Outstanding Service awards respectively.
