Enrollment Requirements

High school students seeking to register at JMU as dual enrollment students must submit the Non-degree Seeking Student Application form, a recommendation from the high school principal or guidance counselor, and a transcript of high school grades. Registration must be approved by the head of the department(s) in which the student desires to take a course(s).

Students may enroll in one of three (3) ways:

1. Regularly scheduled college credit courses taught at JMU (see our NDS INFO PAGE for more information);

2. Specially scheduled college credit courses, with enrollment limited exclusively to high school students, and taught at the high school;

3. Specially scheduled college credit courses, with enrollment limited exclusively to high school students, and taught on JMU's campus.

Additional requirements:

Dual enrollment students may enroll in no more than two courses during each JMU academic term (fall, spring, summer) while attending high school classes. While recent high school graduates may register for summer work as non-degree students, this does not constitute admission to these terms.

Should the student enroll as a full-time student at JMU following high school graduation, credits earned, where appropriate, will apply toward degree requirements following the completion of one term. Transfer of these credits to other colleges will be at the discretion of the institution concerned.
