The Honors College is proud to announce a new partnership with UVA’s Batten School of Public Policy & Leadership. The partnership will afford JMU Honors students with a number of benefits: the Batten School will waive application costs to current and former JMU Honors students, and all Honors students admitted to the Batten School for graduate study will receive a guaranteed fellowship. Family and Friends Game Night Fridays with JMU X-Labs!
Join us at JMU X-Labs every Friday in October to play virtual games with your friends and family! Game winners will receive custom prizes from JMU X-Labs. There will be different games throughout the month including trivia, an escape room, and a murder mystery experience – all virtually! 

This week's sessions:

  • Werewolf (2 & 6PM): Working as a team, figure out who the Werewolves are and try to eliminate them. But be careful, you don't want to kill innocent Villagers! In this game, each player takes on the role of a Villager, a Werewolf, or a special character. It’s your job, working as a team to figure out who the Werewolves are and try to eliminate them. But be careful, you don't want to kill innocent Villagers by accident! No experience required; this activity is FREE!
  • The Thing in the Cellar (2 & 6PM): Join us for virtual Family and Friends Game Night as part of Family Fridays in October where we will play a variety of games through Zoom! In this game, players will be assigned roles of monstrous roommates sharing a haunted house, preparing for their annual halloween fright-fest when a crime is committed! It’s your job working together to find out who the thief is among the group and save the haunted house! No experience required; this activity is FREE!
  • Virtual Escape Room (2 & 6PM): Happy Halloween! Work with your family and friends to traverse a Haunted Mansion in this virtual escape room. Challenges will include riddles, puzzles, and codes you must solve to make your way through the Estate and escape!

Connect with people quicker. Develop relationships better. Improve communication in all areas of life. Join us for a live, virtual workshop to learn about the Model of Human Behavior and the powerful concepts of personality. Each person registering will complete their own DISC assessment during the workshop, get their results, and learn what the results mean. You can enjoy better relationships and more fulfilling interactions with others using the tools and insights learned during this fun, interactive workshop. (Session is limited to 30 people. To complete the assessment, each participant must register using their own valid email address. Registration is available until noon on the day of the workshop, or until all 30 slots are filled. Session begins at 7PM and ends at 8:15PM.

The First Year Honors Experience
HON 100 is an introductory experience in the Honors College undertaken by most incoming first year students. The course exposes first year students to Honors activities and goals and introduces leadership, research, study abroad, and service opportunities. A unique attribute is that each course section is taught by two upper-level Honors students, who grow as educators, mentors, and leaders. Everyone has those things in life that are hard to talk about. You might need to patch up a relationship after an argument. Or, you just might need to talk about a sensitive issue. Whatever the need, when it comes to having a difficult conversation you definitely need the right strategies and techniques. This offline, learn-when-you-want material will introduce you to the content and material in the book, “Difficult Conversations” by authors Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton, and Sheila Heen. Spend 30 minutes learning at your own pace, on your own schedule. Then, join us LIVE for a Q&A session to increase your understanding and get answers to your questions!

Executive Pastry Chef Elizabeth Forslund has always had a passion for baking. She sharpened her skills at a culinary institute and even worked at Disney World for 5 years making all sorts of creations! Chef Elizabeth has been with JMU Dining for 11 years and enjoys continuing the sweet traditions at JMU like Peanut Butter Pie. Emily Cozic and Nicole Jackson are part of the Marketing Team at JMU Dining. They work together to create a dynamic JMU Dining program that consist of engaging events that taste great too!
