Program Details

The Secondary Theatre Institute focuses on theatre as a collaborative art through a series of hands-on workshops that explore acting, directing, devising, and dramaturgy. During the week, we consider how to use drama and theatre pedagogies to build community, deepen skills in the art form, and engage students through story. Tools and strategies taught in this session serve both secondary classroom educators and extra-curricular theatre directors.

*Continuing Education Credit is available.

What Teachers/Directors are Saying

"Finally! A professional development opportunity that was useful, meaningful, and packed with ideas and strategies that will be useful in any classroom- not just my performing arts classes. More people need this training! I didn’t want to leave when it was over and that NEVER happens in a PD!" -Performing Arts Program Coordinator/Theatre Instructor

"New strategies, innovative ideas, a new plan for the year!" -High School Director

Would you recommend?

"Yes-times a million! The instructor was engaging and dynamic and the material presented made so much sense! While it was geared toward theatre teachers the strategies should be used in all subject areas."

"Absolutely! The class was engaging, interactive, and extremely useful. I came back to school energized and armed with practical new strategies for my classroom."

Facilitated by arts integration and drama specialist Joshua Streeter (Assistant Professor of Theatre Education at James Madison University).
