December Transfer Orientation
December Transfer Orientation is designed to prepare you for your transition to campus in January. This all day program (7:45 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.) is full of opportunities for you and your family to discover everything JMU offers. It's also when you enroll in your first semester classes!
In preparation for your new life at JMU, make your Orientation reservation and start completing steps today.
Please read the information below to answer questions you may have about December Transfer Orientation.
- All college transcripts and course descriptions (this is very important!)
- Your e-ID and password to enroll in classes
- A photo ID (such as a driver's license, government-issued photo ID or passport)
- Wear comfortable, casual clothes and shoes because you will be doing lots of walking
- An umbrella (in case of rain), boots (in case of snow) or sunglasses (in case of sun)
Your university financial account will be charged the $180 Orientation Fee whether or not you choose to attend December Transfer Orientation. Learn more about Madison Money Manager through your One Book steps. You will receive an email from the University Business Office when your account is charged for spring semester.
If there is inclement weather and/or the university is closed due to weather on December 11th, Orientation will take place on December 14th. Additional information will be posted on the Orientation website.
As you complete your Orientation Reservation step within the One Book website, please enter accommodation requests in the appropriate area when asked. James Madison University will be closed for winter break beginning at 5pm on December 23, 2015 and will re-open on January 4, 2016. The first day of spring classes is January 11, 2016.

|8:25 - 8:50 a.m.||Kick off your day by being formally welcomed to your new home at JMU!|
|9:00 - 10:50 a.m.||Meet with an Assisting New Transfers peer to get personalized information and meet other transfer students. You'll also get the inside scoop on academic guidelines like graduation requirements, General Education and transfer credit evaluations.||Meet with Orientation staff to get questions answered.|
|10:55 - 11:25 a.m.||Video presentation of essential student services with information about housing, dining, technology and financial issues.|
|11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.||Lunch at D-Hall|
|12:30 - 1:15 p.m.||Student Resource & Housing Fair|
|1:30 - 5:00 p.m.||Academic Advising and Class Enrollment: meet with an academic advisor in departmental offices and enroll in classes.||Meet with campus departments to get questions answered.|
