Casey Ouren named Director of Orientation

Student Affairs is pleased to announce that Casey Ouren has been selected as our new Director of Orientation, responsible for coordinating the transitional needs of first-year and transfer students entering JMU.

Casey graduated from The University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a concentration in Finance. She received her Master's degree in Sports Administration from The University of Southern Mississippi. Casey joined JMU Orientation in October 2013 and previously held the roles of Operations Manager, Assistant Director of Operations, Associate Director and most recently Interim Director.

“Casey is the right person to welcome new Dukes to JMU and help us guide them and their families through this important process. I am very excited to see what she and her team will accomplish in the coming years.” said Tim Miller, Vice President for Student Affairs.

Myles Surrett, Associate Vice President for Career, Experiential Learning and Transition, said “I am happy for Casey to take on this new leadership role within JMU Orientation. Casey is a proven leader within the department and served capably during two previous spells as Interim Director. Casey is the right person to continue to build JMU’s Orientation program towards the best possible experience for our students. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Casey and get to learn alongside her every day.”

Casey shared “I am excited about this opportunity to lead the Orientation Office and look forward to continuing to support and advocate for our newest Dukes at JMU. I have been fortunate to learn and grow through various positions within Orientation that have provided me with invaluable perspective that will prove useful as Orientation continues to evolve in the best interest of the JMU community. I am honored to lead the department and continue to foster collaborative relationships across campus while making a positive impact on the transition experience for new students.”

Casey enjoys photography and being outdoors, traveling and spending time with her husband, Chris, two sons, Wyatt and Ethan and daughter, Abbie. You can find her in the Orientation office’s new space on the second floor of the Student Success Center, room 2100.
