This past May, JMU's Archery Team had the privilege to travel to Chula Vista, California among 400 other competitors to test their skills in the National Outdoor Collegiate Championships. Performing in the Eastern Archery Center for Excellence in the USA Olympic Training facility, the team was treated to top-of-the-line facilities and amenities like arrow and bow repair rooms and form training spaces.

At the end of the first competition day, JMU's recurve team members Allison Wilfong and Aaron Sachschwesky took silver and Matt Petty and Lauren Palmieri placed fifth overall. With the excitement of success carrying them into day two, the team prepared to compete in the individual elimination rounds. After a long day, Allison Wilfong emerged with 4th place, shooting JMU past the elimination rounds.

For those not aware, the scoring system in Archery also determines who shoots for each division's team round. JMU men's recurve team members Matt Petty (13th), Cortland Burke (18th), and Alex Dunham (33rd) all qualified. As did Logan Olszewski (28th), Lauren Palmieri (29th), and Rachel Jones (42nd) of the women's recurve team and Holly Mangum (1st), Allison Wilfong (5th), and Lauren Donnelley (12th) of the women's bowhunting team. The men's recurve team was victorious, placing 1st for the third year in a row, and the women's bowhunting team came in at second. To top it off, All-American honors were earned by Aaron Sachewsky and Holly Mangum, Andy Puckett was awarded Coach of the Year, and the JMU Archery Team scored 3rd overall.

Archery is just one of the many sport clubs that JMU offers. We're so proud of their successes and can't wait to see what our archers accomplish this year!
