Healthy Families Completes Self-Study For National Accreditation

News

Healthy Families Page and Shenandoah Counties recently submitted program self study and documentation materials to Healthy Families America as part of Healthy Families Virginia's application for national re-accreditation. Both Page and Shenandoah Counties received full approval of their sites' policies, practices, and service delivery.

Interprofessional family review (IIPFR) teams led by Emily Akerson, Healthy Families Director and IIHHS Coordinator of Clinical and Interprofessional Initiatives, were recognized as part of the accreditation review for their effectiveness in providing reflective consultation and supervision for Healthy Families staff and interns working within the programs. IPFR's are held in collaboration with JMU's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and other JMU faculty to provide home visitors with clinical and reflective support in their work with vulnerable families.

Yvonne Frazier, Program Manager will present information regarding the utilization of IPFR teams at the Healthy Families Virginia Directors network meeting in September. Healthy Families is an evidence-based home-visiting program providing services for parents and children, ages 0-5, to promote maternal and child health and safety, parent/child bonding, and family well-being. The program is recognized by the Department of Social Services as a high quality child abuse and neglect prevention program as well. Healthy Families Page and Shenandoah Counties provide numerous JMU student internships each year.
