Chemo Demo at Waterman Elementary School

chemo demoInstructional Program Coordinator, Becky Lantz, leads two afterschool enrichment classes at Waterman Elementary School. On Monday October 20th, 2014 the JMU Chemistry student group, Chemo Demo, visited the school at Mrs. Lantz’s request to offer hands-on demonstrations for elementary students in the Mad Scientist class. Mrs. Lantz had this to say about the experience:

The group used chemistry demonstrations to bring science to life in a very real way for our K-2nd grade students. We saw a bamboo skewer pushed through a balloon without popping it, a flower dipped in liquid nitrogen shatter when it hit the table, and flames that turned different colors depending on which mineral was used to light it. These demonstrations inspired the class as we continue our own Mad Science experiments.
